Musical splendour
The vocal soloists of Gli Angeli Genève made such a strong impression in last year’s Bach Festival that it was inspired idea for Early Music Vancouver to invite their full troupe of instrumentalists for this year. (…) The natural pacing and emotional engagement was even finer in the closing cantata BWV 131, featuring singing of lovely transparency, shape and cohesion throughout. The closing chorus was absolutely overwhelming in its amplitude, richly-blended tonal weight, and sense of devotion. (…) It was striking how the music making of this concert built up step-by-step to its ultimate focus and concentration, and the sheer weight and transcendence of the ending likely amazed (and transfixed) the audience.
